Garcia girls part two
Very interesting read so far. The girls moved to New York City which in turn lead to a major culture shock. A big part in the story was the girls were sent to a boarding school in America and came under fire. They found themselves being called mean racial slurs and so on. Another big event in the story was when Carla was on her way home from school and a "long nosed green car" pulled up next to her and honked, thinking they needed directions, Carla walked to the car to help only to find the man naked from the waste down masturbating. This was very shocking for her, and when she went to tell the police about the incident she really couldn't help them because of her poor English. Also in the reading there was a point when Yolanda had to write a speech. At first she did not want to because of her poor English but eventually wrote it. Her father saw the speech and tore it up because she was becoming Americanized. Yolanda locked herself in her room and her mother eventually came up and helped her write another speech.

Comfort, Familiar, Safe, Free, Unit, Identity. These are the words i choose to describe my definition of home. My idea of a home is not just a house you live in with your family. I feel a home can be anywhere that these words fit. I personally have a few places i can call "home". Comfort, familiar, safe and identity describe a home for me because to call somewhere home you must have a sense of home field advantage in a way. A home defines who you are in a way. I also think a home is somewhere that you can bond with people(unit). Again i feel anywhere can be a home, not just the house you live in.
